Irregular past simple verb forms
Aim
Students match present tense verbs to their irregular past simple forms.

Time
15–20 minutes
Preparation
Print and cut one set of cards per group of 3–4 students.
Procedure
Spread all cards face down on the table in a grid pattern.
Students take turns flipping over two cards at a time.
If the two cards form a correct present-past pair (e.g., "go" and "went"), the student keeps the pair and takes another turn.
If the cards do not match, the student turns them face down again and the next player goes.
Continue until all pairs are found.
The student with the most pairs at the end wins.
Extension: each student picks three pairs and writes a sentence for each past tense verb.
