Card GameFirst Conditional
Activity Type
Card Game
Focus
First conditional structure: if + present simple, will + infinitive
Aim
Students match if-clauses to logical result clauses.
Level
A2–B1
Time
15–20 minutes
Preparation
Print and cut one set of cards per group of 3–4 students.
Procedure
Shuffle all cards and spread them face down on the table.
Students take turns flipping two cards.
If the two cards form a logical first conditional sentence (an if-clause + a result clause), the student reads the full sentence aloud and keeps the pair.
If the pair does not make logical sense, the cards are turned face down again.
Play continues until all pairs are matched.
The student with the most pairs wins.
Extension: students create three new first conditional sentences of their own.
